DESIGN
Bruce Benning began Benning Design Associates in 1984 as a full service interior design firm in midtown Sacramento. As BDA, the firm designed many of Sacramento’s iconic restaurants, signature residences, and corporate offices, winning numerous local and national awards. With a strong background in lighting design and an emphasis on transforming interior space architecturally, the Benning team has long been acknowledged for ingenuity, creativity, and a commitment to functional, high-level design.
In 2019 Bruce retired from the firm to pursue some well-deserved golf, leisure, and family time. He sticks close, while Eric leads the design team.
CONSTRUCTION
In 1989 Eric Benning began working in the construction industry doing commercial and industrial construction and development. After working his way up the construction ladder from laborer to superintendent and eventually to project management, in 2002 Eric secured his general contractors license and started his own business, Benning Construction, Inc. Eric’s firm started out performing commercial projects but soon evolved to focus on high-end residential remodel work.
BDC
The design-build approach streamlines project delivery via a single, collaborative process between the owner and the design-build team. The fundamental difference between design-build and the traditional designer-contractor relationship is that it removes the client from their role as the intermediary, one who has to negotiate through the steps of a project and mediate between designer and builder. Design-build places clients in a position to enjoy the process while the design and construction teams collaborate and innovate on their behalf. On an integrated design-build team a project runs smoothly and efficiently from initial concept through construction – saving money and time and creating a positive experience for all involved.
Benning Design Construction is Sacramento’s premier design-build company. As father and son Bruce and Eric built successful independent interior design and construction firms, but with excellent design and superior craftsmanship they naturally began collaborating, and the design-build concept was born. After years of working together on their respective companies’ projects, in 2016 the singular entity of BDC became official. Making the move from midtown to Arden with a BDC-designed-and-renovated headquarters at 960 Fulton Avenue, the unified team is able to work seamlessly together through every step of a project.
